I'll be eighteen soon. How old are you? [ She asks, shaking his pinky in her lightly. ]

I'll play if you want me to.

I'm five. [ he holds up his hand to show five fingers. With his other hand he links it with her pinky and doesn't let go just yet. ]

You're old... but not old old. like.... adult old.

You think so? I know a guy who looks a lot like you and he seems to think I'm a child. He's not even that much older than me, but boy, does he act like it.

What do you think I should say to a guy like that, huh? I'll tell him when I see him again.

Um... tell him that a year doesn't make him any better and he shouldn't bull a fairy.

You tell me something. When you grow up, what kinda guy do you wanna be? I think it'll be important someday. [ She grinned, nose wrinkling with suppressed laughter. ]

Mm. Strong people rely on others sometimes, though. Nothing is strong by itself. A tree doesn't stand tall without roots. if you forget that, then when you grow up, you won't be very strong at all...

We're always at our weakest when we're alone. Friends are really important, Squall. But...I think you'll figure that out on your own one day, even if you forget it in-between.

No... but... if I rely on someone else they'll leave me. just like sis did...

Hmm...yes. Sometimes that happens. When a person is missing, we're supposed to take our strength from the good memories. You have good memories of you and Sis, don't you? If you grow up, and you rely on no one, you'll forget all the good things. If you love someone, you don't throw away what you shared. You cherish it, because its important and it made you stronger.

I have friends I want to remember forever and ever...but I might forget them. Even if I try my hardest not to. Leaving makes us sad, but you know, there's a good part about leaving too...

[ She leaned over, rubbing the top of Squall's hair and kissing his forehead. ]

I don't think that's true at all. [ She murmured, gathering him against her and sitting on the ground to hug him tightly. ]

Sometimes people have to go away, even if they don't want to. Sometimes people can't say goodbye. All we can do is be strong for them and hope they'll come back some day. Love never goes away, Squall. Sis and Matron...I'm sure they love you a lot. They'll never stop loving you.

You can't stop loving them either, or you'll forget them...you don't want that, do you?

I bet you the didn't. I bet you anything they love you more than the whole world, and they're probably very worried about you, too. Aren't you worried about them? Because you love them, right?

If all you worry about is being strong and never needing anyone, you'll just end up sad and lonely. I can't be your friend if you don't want me there...

[ Mean? Maybe a little. But then it was really hard to explain things in terms kids understood implicitly. She sighed, hugging him tighter in response, running her fingers through his hair gently. ]

I'll never go. It'd take a heck of a lot more than you cryin' or bein' sour to drive me off.

Though believe you me...pushing me away all the time is really grating on my nerve...

[ he just sobs into her chest as he tries to stay latched on as tight as he cough be. ]

[ That's alright. She doesn't mind. Though the little digimon are all starting to get curious. ]

Psst. Hey...Squall. Squaaaaall. Your uh...little brothers and sisters...they're startin' to get worried. You oughta dry your eyes and practice your best Big Bro face.

I won't go away if you don't want me to. That's the rule. As long as you want me here, I will be. The day you tell me to go away...I will.
