Voice meme!

Since rp is a very writing based hobby, sometimes it's hard to 'hear' what someone you're playing with sounds like.

And that's what this meme is for! Post links to examples of your character's voice. Episode clips, musical numbers, voice clips, anything! For our friends with canons that are non verbal post examples of what you 'hear' your character sounding like!

To save all our browsers though, please don't embed videos: links are much easier to load after all!

Edit: For bonus fun tell us about HOW your character speaks and what you keep in mind when doing dialogue. I love headcanon-y info and thought process stuff like this, ha.

Here is Jin.

He has a somewhat archaic way of speaking, lots of flowery words and metaphors. He also tends to ramble, which is why several of you have gotten paragraph long tags from him. He tends to forget that his interests are a bit unusual, so the more invested he is in a topic, the more he goes on about it. If anyone wants to interrupt one of his rambling speeches, feel free to let me know. He asks for it.

Beastboy and I have a pretty solid relationship, because in away as dorky as he is and as full of fail as he can be, he was the Teen I always wanted to be. Skinny, goofy, with a tight knit circle of friends and the coolest super power.

When thinking of his voice I always click in on the little squeaks that come out when he gets more high pitched and excited. He has a pretty good range though of low to high pitched when he needs to.

And should I ever have trouble with it, I have his karaoke singing on my ipod

Here is Henry.

Henry has a very straightforward way of talking. He usually says what he wants to in a few sentences, and there are exclamation marks all over the place. If he disagree with something, he'll say so- but he'll also just agree to do whatever somebody asks of him. "Heh, I just do what I'm told." But seriously, he obeys almost any order.

Also he's got two laughs, "Nya ha ha!" And "Hee hee" if he's happy, he'll usually chuckle. He's also prone to odd little sayings like "abso-tively posi-lutely".

Here is Hibiki Ganaha's voice! She's from a singing game that became an anime, so there are plenty of songs of hers on youtube.

Hibiki is also Okinawan; I try to get this across in her tags by occasionally making her sound a bit more rough (heya vs. hi, ya vs. you, -in' vs. -ing), but I try not to overdo it, haha. It's pretty important to her character, so I can't really ignore it.

Edit: Here is a link to her talking! She's very confident, emotional, and loud when she speaks. Even without the Okinawan accent, she's very easygoing while she talks.

Some clips of Fluttershy.

For the most part, she is very soft-spoken. Her voice is very quiet, and when she's unsure or scared, she has a very hesitant way of speaking. When she's around people she knows or is more certain, she has a better time getting her thoughts out, but even then she tends to speak in a polite and calm way.

She can be loud when she gets really excited or angry though, as rare as those occasions are. When that happens, she doesn't hold back.

She also sings sometimes, which is pretty cute.

Kaldur's in charge (starts at 2 minutes in, but he's got a great scene earlier where he mimics Captain Marvel. But the clip I linked ends his speaking at about 2:31) Also the reason his lips aren't moving is that he is telepathically "connected" to his team via Miss Martian.

Kaldur at Therapy

While the clips don't quite show it, Kaldur has a very polite way of speaking. He is usually calm and collected and even when he is excited about something will still come off as kind of reserved. I tend to avoid contractions with him to keep that formal sounding tone in his writing.

Because of the impossibility of uploading live-action on youtube, I can't find many short clips! But, if you live in the US or can find a proxy from it, there's this showing a little bit of Cam and his girlfriend, Maya. and also a moment that girls me a bit of ace feels but hey

I also do have this (low-quality) one here, where the first scene at least has lag that's not as bad as in the others. It shows Cam in a more relaxed setting, and you get to hear probably one of my favorite loser-lines of his. pfft that wasn't french cam please.

In terms of audio-only things, I have this as well, which is another Cam-being-cute moment, but it also gets across, in a moment or two, his hesitance and nerves, which I try to convey in some of his lighter tags as well. The video quality isn't all that great at times darn pixels but the audio is crystal clear! And literally what would this be if I didn't link the great karaoke moment of 2012. No video, sadly, but I hope the gifs help. (lower quality I guess if you want to see) :>

I couldn't locate any clips of his more...emotional breakdown-like moments, except in quality where you can barely hear anything. If anyone's really interested I know where to download episodes? Or there's always the wonders of tubeplus, but those streams are hit-or-miss and full episodes.

I'll just do another post for Terra, because I'm getting into loser-mode, going all headcanon-y. I love imagining the little drags to his voice when he's trying to think of things to say. When he's nervous he just loves to draw words out, which is what I try to convey with ellipses at times; Cam's either always rushing through things or going extremely slow, depending on the state he's in, but when he's relaxed everything just kind of flows smooth (which I think the low-quality youtube clip shows). When he's upset, sometimes his voice cracks, but usually when he's sad it goes deep and gravely.

Also, he can do a killer falsetto when singing. ;D

Because I want to I'll also say I'm trying to figure out a voice for Lucemon, since, well, I am playing her too! Just sort of picture something melodious, sort of. She has a tendency to mix proper speaking (she always calls Cam Campbell, for some reason) and slang, clipping the ends of her words. Weird Digimon.

Here's Kazu right here! It's a good clip for him because it shows a nice range of varying emotions throughout it.

Not a big fan of his english VA so I won't be posting that. As for how he talks... he's somewhat soft spoken and almost muttery a lot of the time, but he does have his RAR moments. He's a lot more confident when talking about things he knows he's skilled at (anything involving speed, agility, mimicry, and to a certain extent hacking and technology related things) or in defense of someone he considers a friend. Inexplicably he can also get very flippant and dismissive of adult authority figures who try to tell him what to do (Teacher tells him not to skate in the halls... Basically he'll tell 'em Yeah okay suuuure. And then proceed to ignore). Spitfire (a sort of mentor type character to Kazu but... lol it's kinda complicated) seems to be an exception to this as he holds him in pretty high regards.

In contrast to Cam, Terra is easy to find clips for! ...Well, "clips" meaning "full episodes" but she's in the very first opening part of this, her intro episode, which gives a very nice range of voice. I do, however, mostly picture more using the last episode of the series for her voice, which is here, and she does appear soon in it, jump to minute eight to hear her. It's just a bit deeper, a bit more serious, and we don't hear a full vocal range (enthusiastic) for her in this episode, so it's a bit tricky, but that's usually what I picture for my girl. :)

As for Gotsumon he's firmly in my head as Greg Ayres. :| Ahh, finding clips is a pain, but think somewhere between Kouta from Baka and Test and Negi Springfield sans British accent. He squeaks. A lot. He's an excitable kid.

Best clip of Donnie that I could find.

Donnie's voice... Well he talks like a normal teenager I guess. Well... Maybe not quite that, since he uses a lot of big words and all. His voice is pretty high-pitched, especially when he's freaking out or losing his temper.

To put it simply, Donnie sounds like a nerd. he talks like a nerd, acts like a nerd, and he has the voice to match it. Typiaclly when I play him, his dorkiness will come out, but this verison has a more sarcastic and snarky edge that most of my muses have, and that's the side of him that comes out more. I mean try and compare this Donnie's voice to the last Donnie

So... yeah, geeky, sarcastic, but he can sound serious and intimidating if he has to. So... yeah, that's the best way that I can describe it.

Alex has no VA, for obvious reasons, but for how she talks, she has a mild English accent (From the south, if anyone can tell that much).

In conversation, she tends to mutter and grumble a lot on subjects she doesn't like, but things she cares about, she brightens up and will start talking at a mile a minute, half to herself. She tends to mix in a lot of technical talk, too. Lots of big words, peppered with references to texts and concepts. And she can go on forever just to herself.

She tends to have very precise pronunciation when she speaks, too, though this is a deliberate affectation that she thinks makes her sound more educated. She tries to sound like she is the smartest person on Earth, which doesn't always work so well, but hey, ego.

She also has a tendency to put heavy emphasis on whatever she thinks is important, which I tend to render with italics, but it's basically like she's trying to smack whoever she's talking to in the head with her words. Even on good subjects, it's just a habit.

Here's Iori in the first game! She's a year younger than her current canonpoint, but honestly, not much has changed other than her hairstyle.

She's voiced by Rie Kugimiya, known as the queen of tsundere. She's done other famous tsundere type characters like Taiga from Toradora, Louise from Zero no Tsukaima, and Shana from Shakugan no Shana.

Oh and also, since Iori's canon is about being a cute singing girl, what would this comment be without a video of her singing?

Here's Connor.

English is his second language, and while he's fluent in it, he has a measured and deliberate way of speaking. He enunciates each word fully, he doesn't use contractions, and he prefers to speak formally over colloquialisms. He also tends to talk in a flat monotone, which I assume is because Mohawk, his mother tongue, is tone-based (like Mandarin, for instance) while English is less dependent on tone.

Around friends and people he trusts, he's more soft-spoken and expressive in his speech, while around most others he tends to be flat and neutral, and uses more short/curt sentences. If he's angry... Well, you're damn well gonna hear about it.

A clip from an episode! Orine's a soft spoken person and I can probably count on hand the number of times she has raised her voice.

Uhhh, when I tag I try to keep in mind that since she's soft spoken and it makes her sound a bit shy. So I usually aim to make her sound a bit hesitant when she talks.

That said, her demeanor does change too when she's in Idol Mode. Not a drastic change, but. Yeah.

Youtube link Yumemi is pretty soft spoken and doesn't really have any quirks or such in her speech. She also is not really one to talk a lot unless she's in her speech mode as seen in this clip. Most of the time she doesn't really speak all that much unless a circumstance comes up that actually causes her to have strong feelings that have to be mentioned.

So yeah. It makes it fun to get her to say more then a sentence or two normally and uh yeah I suck at describing this because she really is pretty normal.

Part I have saved from the first episode because of reasons

It's really hard for me to describe Arcee's way of speaking? Her sentences are usually kept short and sweet and to the point. She's been described as a person of few words in the show, but that's not really true all the time? I mean, there are a lot of times where she'll only say a few things and be really hush hush. But at the same time, she can get wordy, especially when explaining things. Plus the added snark/sass. Besides that, she tends to throw in 'gonna's and 'wanna's into her speech, but again, it's not very consistent. So that's really what I try to remember when I play her.

Edit:
Also robot swears.

Also also, as far as Tapirmon goes, he kind of sounds like Catbug in my head. I didn't mean for this to happen, but it stuck and I can't unhear it.

This is what Ryan sounds like, in general. This is Lucas Grabeel singing (I was gonna link a HSM clip of him singing, but I think every song from HSM is linked in my app).

I tried to find the clip of him in HSM1 that is the source of the username, but no such luck. It's super cute, but the things I try to keep in mind are that Ryan is such a sarcastic bastard. It doesn't come through in the first movie, but in the subsequent two movies, I swear every other thing he says is like a jab at someone (one of his first pieces of dialogue in HSM2 is "Gee, I don't know, Shar . . . you?" in response to Sharpay asking "And who would you say is East High's Primo girl?"). The way he talks to people sort of changes from person to person, subtly, so I tend to shift the way he talks depending on who he's talking to. He's much more casual around girls than guys, who he tends to think more carefully about what he's saying. So there's that!

Oh! And this is a pretty good representation of what Mimi sounds like. (And for shits and giggles Vdoll performing "Light My Candle" with Aaron Tveit. IT'S A JOKE ON TOP OF A JOKE.)

I am using the Japanese name, but I did grow up with the English version, even if I have seen the Japanses original since then. As such Daisuke has this kind of weird combination of the two in my head. I sometimes hear the Japanese voice, but I also play him a little with the English as well (at least when it comes to his slang like "dude"). Just, Daisuke is a "dude" kind of person IDK.

It's hard to explain but either way his voice and mannerisms are very informal. He's friendly with you no matter who you are and also kinda loud at times.

Undertaker sings.

OKAY SO MAYBE NOT IN CANON but all the same... the second on in particular has some bits of "narrative" in the middle where you can really hear how all over the place his voice can go.

Ah here we go, an abbreviated version of his introduction sequence.

Just... how do you describe that. His tone is not how normal people talk! Up and down and all around and squeaky some times and low and "~eerie~" in others... and every bit of it on purpose, I say. Oh and of course, the laugh. You can't forget the laugh.

Writing for him I mostly try to keep in mind that he's living in Victorian England and he has a kind of half formal, half theatrical vibe to the things he says, alongside speaking his mind without caring how others react (outside of deliberately being a creep). Sometimes he even gets into extended metaphors, but I tell myself to use those sparingly.

So I had a devil of a time finding a video of Dick that wasn't an AMV (and therefore, had no speaking in it), so I went for second-best and got some videos of Jesse McCartney, his voice actor.

Season one!Dick pretty much just sounds like a higher-pitched Jesse, cause he's well- thirteen years old.

Just in case you don't know what Jesse sounds like: 21 Questions!

Insta-Correction: Since my YouTube-fu is weak, I was lovingly provided with Dick hacking the motion sensors; ie. being his usual trolly self. And here is him laughing into the sunset.

Also, bittybird in therapy. He's very expressive with his voice, especially when he doesn't want to be. He has a habit of letting his negative emotions come through a lot.

A bonus song, because I can't resist.

This is a really short clip for Hope but it captures him nicely. Not perfectly, since this was early on in the game and he's well past that point. This is what he's like when pissed off.

Kanji sounds like this. I fucking love when someone has a compilation of the voice clips. Here's the last few ranks in his social link for more variety.

Bonus #1: Hope's English VA is Phineas and Kanji's is Snow/Sol/James Sunderland/Van Kleiss. .. In English of course. Japanese is way more complicated so uh. NNnnnnnnnope.

Bonus #2: Hope is very well-spoken for a kid-- he's not eloquent like his older self, but he's getting there. He tends to put in kid-speak such as 'weird' in his sentences, but that's because he doesn't know another word to replace it. He's only 14 after all. Meanwhile, Kanji is very rough and tends to drop swearbombs. He's not very educated so there's a lot of street talk and slang being thrown around when I'm playing him (which isn't so difficult tbh).
